Announcing Taptheme for Joomla 2.5!

Taptheme is now compatible with Joomla 2.5.  If you already purchased the TapTheme template for the iPhone, iPad, Android or even the Taptheme Bundle, you may download the new version at any time.  Login to our store and visit your downloads page for the new zip file.

Free Alpha Release

Late January, we announced that the all new Taptheme would be integrated with jQuery Mobile. We are happy to release the new and FREE Alpha verson of Taptheme jQM!  During this Alpha release we will continue to test Joomla! components and templates.  Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The installation process for Taptheme jQM is just as simple as it was before and now with a faster setup.  Simply install the template and plugin within the Joomla Extensions Directory and begin setting up your Joomla website for mobile devices.

This is an ALPHA release.  There will be MANY bugs and WE DO NOT GUARANTEE TIMELY SUPPORT.  At this moment, we are only collecting bugs and expect MANY!

jQuery Mobile Joomla Integration

When optimizing your websites for mobile devices, it is most important to consider mobile URL's indexed in Google and plan for search engine optimization ("SEO").  There are several options; such as, using a mobile subdomain like "m." or "mobile." or subfolder naming conventions like m/ or mobile/.  In all cases, if you're using Taptheme for Joomla, the best practice is to use an alternative alias from your top-level domain ("TLD").

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Mike Demopoulos of Sengistix at Joomla Day Chicago on August 5, 2011.  Sengistix is a company that works with assessing areas of concern and vulnerability to meet individual needs.  They designed a product called the S.E.N.S. System (Secure Environmental Network of Support System) that allows caregivers to monitor select activities of individuals remotely. S.E.N.S. hardware and software identifies and responds to the right set of conditions.  For example, a motion sensor may be placed under an individuals bed to detect if a particular patient or individual has fallen.  It can also email the caregiver if the required dose of medication has been consumed at a particular time.

When we think of mobile content management, we think of a CMS that offers mobile themes.  For now , we are referring to the content contained on your mobile website.  The best practice for keeping your audience interested is to include content that is brief and to the point; that goes for your main site and mobile site.  If your main site is already simplistic, you might keep the mobile content similar but if you want to engage your mobile users consider a dedicated mobile site.  Most importantly, create mobile content for SEO.
